Communication Drafting

1. Identify the audience. Before writing anything, answer: Who is the recipient? What is their relationship to the sender? What do they need from this message? What medium is this for?
2. Select tone and format using the tone mapping table in references/drafting-guide.md. Professional email, casual email, formal document, and quick message each have different norms.
3. Hard stop before drafting: Do not write a single sentence until audience, tone, and format are explicitly named. If any is unclear, ask the human and wait for an answer.
4. Multi-audience rule: If the same content must reach different audiences, draft each version separately. Do not write one message for everyone.
5. Draft. Front-load the key point. Match the medium. Respect the reader's time — shorter is almost always better.
6. Check the ask. Every message with a requested action must have a specific, dated ask. "Can you confirm the budget by Friday?" beats "Let me know your thoughts."
7. Review. Does the tone match the relationship? Is the ask clear? Is anything sensitive that needs softening or removing?
