DO:
- Limit primary nav to 5-7 items
- Use clear, action-oriented labels
- Keep hierarchy shallow (2-3 levels max)
- Highlight current page/section
- Make menus keyboard-accessible
DON'T:
- Create deep nested menus
- Use vague labels like "More" or "Misc"
- Hide important pages in submenus
- Forget mobile users
// Cache menus - they change infrequently

page-structure-design - Page hierarchy for navigationurl-routing-patterns - URL structure for menu linksheadless-api-design - Navigation API endpointsnpx claudepluginhub melodic-software/claude-code-plugins --plugin content-management-systemDesigns navigation systems including primary menus, footers, mega-menus, and breadcrumbs. Generates accessible YAML/JSON/HTML structures configurable by type and site needs.
Selects the right primary navigation pattern (top nav, side nav, tabs, bottom nav) based on content depth and device context, avoiding common usability failures.
Guides selection of navigation models (hub-spoke, hierarchy, flat, content-driven) and ensures wayfinding fundamentals: where am I, where can I go, how do I get back.
