Adopted by: NAPO (National Association of Productivity and Organizing Professionals) certified organizers; KonMari-certified consultants; professional organizers in 50+ countries Impact: Decluttered homes reduce cleaning time by 40%; organized households report 25% lower stress levels; the average American home has 300,000 items — deliberate decluttering reclaims 1–2 hours/day in lost-item searches Why best: Structured methods prevent the common failure mode of moving clutter from room to room; category-based or zone-based approaches produce lasting results because they address root causes, not symptoms

Choose a method matched to the situation:
Gather supplies before starting — Boxes/bags (keep, donate, trash, relocate), labels, markers, and timer. Never start without containers ready — loose items create new piles.
Set a session time limit — 2-hour blocks maximum; decision fatigue degrades quality after 90–120 minutes. Schedule multiple sessions rather than marathon sessions.
Process entire categories, not rooms (KonMari) — Pull every clothing item from every room before deciding. This reveals total volume, which motivates decisive action.
Handle each item exactly once — Make a keep/discard decision on first contact. Putting items aside to "decide later" is the primary failure mode.
Apply a discard decision framework:
Assign every kept item a permanent home — Items without designated locations will migrate back to flat surfaces. "A home for everything" is the prerequisite for maintaining organization.
Process donations immediately — Box donations go directly to car or donation drop within 24 hours. Items that re-enter the home get kept.
Establish sentimental item rules — Limit sentimental items to one container per person (box, bin, or drawer). Photograph items before discarding if emotional attachment is the primary reason for keeping.
Create a maintenance habit — 10-minute daily reset; monthly review of high-traffic zones; annual full reassessment. Decluttering is a process, not a one-time event.
npx claudepluginhub jeffreytse/grimoire --plugin grimoireDesigns storage systems for closets, pantries, garages, and whole-home optimization using zone planning and vertical space maximization.
Batch-clean up session types (ideation, discussion, debug, plans, requests) in bulk, archiving completed items beyond a configurable keep count and prompting for stale active requests.
Defines a structured process for managing tasks and workflows. Useful for establishing repeatable procedures and standardizing operations.
