png-to-svg

A Claude Code plugin that converts PNG images to smooth, scalable SVG vector files.

What it does

• Multi-color tracing — Extracts up to 8 dominant colors from a PNG and traces each color layer separately into clean bezier curves
• Single-color mode — Auto-detects the dominant color or lets you specify one
• Smooth output — Uses potrace for high-quality bezier curve tracing with configurable smoothness
• Clean SVGs — Automatically removes background rectangles and temp files

Installation

npx skills add rajnandan1/png-to-svg-plugin

Or inside a Claude Code session:

1. Add the marketplace:

   /plugin marketplace add rajnandan1/png-to-svg-plugin
   

2. Install the plugin:

   /plugin install png-to-svg@rajnandan1-png-to-svg-plugin
   

The skill will automatically check for required dependencies (imagemagick and potrace) and prompt you to install them if missing.

Usage

Once installed, just ask Claude to convert a PNG:

Convert logo.png to SVG

Vectorize my-icon.png and make it red

Turn artwork.png into a scalable vector

The skill triggers automatically when you mention PNG-to-SVG conversion, vectorizing images, bitmap tracing, etc.

Options

The bundled script supports these flags:

How it works

1. Color extraction — Samples dominant colors via ImageMagick histogram
2. Per-color tracing — Isolates each color, converts to bitmap, traces with potrace
3. SVG composition — Combines traced layers into a single multi-color SVG
4. Cleanup — Removes potrace background rect, deletes temp files
