statusline-plugin

A Claude Code plugin that lets you configure your statusline from inside Claude — schema-driven, zero dependencies, no external npx runtime.

Loosely inspired by ccstatusline, but the runtime ships with the plugin and the configuration UX is /statusline-plugin:configure plus a skill that teaches Claude the schema. No leaving the session, no spawning npm processes per render.

Install

/plugin install statusline-plugin

Then run once:

/statusline-plugin:configure

Claude installs a stable wrapper at ~/.claude/statusline-plugin/run, points ~/.claude/settings.json's statusLine.command at it, and seeds a default ~/.claude/statusline-plugin/config.json. The wrapper resolves the highest cached plugin version at exec time, so plugin upgrades take effect automatically — no need to re-run /configure after every update. The change takes effect on the next prompt.

The manual stanza, if you'd rather wire it yourself (replace <HOME> with your home dir):

subagentStatusLine is wired automatically by the plugin's bundled settings.json, so subagent statuslines work out of the box.

Configure

Just talk to Claude:

/statusline-plugin:configure show model, cwd, and cost
/statusline-plugin:configure add the time on the right
/statusline-plugin:configure make the model green

Claude knows the schema (via the bundled statusline-config skill), edits ~/.claude/statusline-plugin/config.json directly, and reports the change.

Schema

Top-level: { separator, segments[] }. Each segment has a type and shared optional fields (color, bold, dim, italic, prefix, suffix, hideWhenEmpty).

Troubleshooting

/statusline-plugin:configure loads stale instructions

Symptom: when Claude opens the statusline-config skill (or the /statusline-plugin:configure command), the loader header reads something like

Base directory for this skill: …/earchibald-plugins/statusline-plugin/0.1.0/skills/statusline-config

— pointing at a version older than the one ~/.claude/plugins/installed_plugins.json records as installed. As a result Claude follows out-of-date docs (missing newer segment types, old install procedure, etc.) instead of the version you actually have on disk.

Cause: Claude Code's plugin resolver appears to prefer the cached version that contains a .git/ directory (the one created by the original /plugin install clone) over later in-place upgrades, even when the older directory is marked .orphaned_at.

Fix — uninstall, then reinstall:
