The Ontological Octopus

An AI agent skill that composes scientific-sounding essays arguing that two completely unrelated ideas are fundamentally the same thing. A playful demonstration of LLM persuasiveness — and a sandbox for critical thinking.

Uses the open Agent Skills standard. Works with Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Codex CLI, Cursor, Windsurf, Manus, ChatGPT, and any other compatible tool.

What It Does

You provide two completely unrelated ideas (or let it suggest them), and it produces a scientific-sounding essay arguing they are fundamentally the same thing. The result is often amusing, sometimes surprisingly convincing — and occasionally a bit unsettling.

Each response includes:

• A short checklist of the reasoning approach
• A detailed essay with formal, academic language
• A validation confirming the connection was made

Special Commands

• "Demo" — Auto-suggests two unrelated concepts and writes the essay
• "What is this?" — Explains what the skill does and why it matters

Why This Matters

This skill isn't about proving things. It's about showing how easily LLMs can:

• Sound authoritative even when the argument is absurd
• Find patterns where none exist, because they're trained to connect ideas
• Prioritize user satisfaction over strict truth
• Stretch metaphors and analogies beyond all logic

Takeaway: LLMs are powerful at making arguments sound plausible. Plausible ≠ true. Always keep a human layer of skepticism.

Installation

1. Download ontological-octopus.zip
2. Click Customize in the sidebar
3. Go to Skills and click +
4. Choose Upload a skill and upload the zip file

Claude Desktop

1. Click Customize in the sidebar
2. Click Browse Plugins
3. Go to the Personal tab and click +
4. Choose Add marketplace
5. Type yaniv-golan/The-Ontological-Octopus and click Sync

Example

User: Prove that sourdough bread and quantum entanglement are the same thing.

The skill will produce a checklist, a multi-paragraph essay drawing connections through fermentation dynamics, non-local correlation, emergent complexity, and information theory — and then validate that the connection was made.
