Size check — count Desired Behaviors, Acceptance Criteria, and code layers touched. If DB × AC > 50 OR layers > 3, either split into 2-3 specs along natural seams (publisher fix vs new classifier vs new background goroutine, etc.) OR add a ## Suggested Decomposition section enumerating the prompts (table with columns # | Prompt focus | Covers DBs | Covers ACs | Depends on). Binary, testable statements. **Each AC must declare its evidence shape** — the observable artifact the verifier will demand. Bad: "Unit test covers X" (test plan, not evidence). Good: "`grep -n 'pattern' file.md` returns line ≥1" / "topic `foo` receives one message with key `K`" / "`kubectl get pod` shows Running". See `docs/rules/spec-writing.md` "Evidence Shape per Acceptance Criterion" for the full table of shapes.
**Write the AC before the Desired Behavior.** Naming the observable proof first anchors the rest of the spec — Desired Behavior is then what work has to happen for these checks to fire.

**Scenario coverage — default: NO new scenario.** Most specs are satisfied by unit + integration tests in the implementation prompt. Scenarios are E2E tests at the top of the test pyramid — slow, brittle, expensive — and should be rare. Add a scenario AC only when ALL of these hold: (a) unit and integration tests genuinely cannot reach the behavior (real Docker, real `gh`, real cluster — not just "touches a seam"), (b) the behavior is load-bearing for an essential user journey, (c) no existing scenario covers it, and (d) the regression risk is concrete and named. If unsure: NO scenario. See `docs/rules/scenario-writing.md` "When to Write a Scenario" for the canonical rule.
